| | The Geographic Information Technologies Division at METU is an interdisciplinary program leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees and a leading educational institution in Turkey for teaching and research in geographic information science, remote sensing and space geodesy. The program is designed to meet the growing demands for skilled manpower at graduate level particularly in areas modern space technologies and their applications, GIS, spatial data analyses and remote sensing technology. The program emphasizes theoretical as well as applied multi-disciplinary research. | | | The main objective of geodetic and geographic information technologies program is to cater for the qualified manpower and research needs in Turkey in Space Geodesy, Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing area, the major objectives and envisaged of the program are as follows; Respond to urgent manpower needs at graduate level, Provide necessary multi-disciplinary education to graduate students in engineering, architecture and city planning, Respond to urgent needs of private industry and government agencies in theoretical and applied research, Endeavor to pursue applied and theoretical research in geodetic and geographic information technologies at a level on par with the world leaders in the area, Provide consultancy services to government and private agencies for the transfer of technology, training, restructuring, implementation and preparation of geomatics and specifications, Offer continuing education and conduct training programs in geodetic and geographic information technologies for the technical personnel of government and private institutions,
Organize summer schools, seminars, workshops and conferences in geodetic and geographic information technologies | GIS-day organization Date: November 19, 2003 |

| Students; | | | The department attracts students from different disciplines at graduate level. The most of the graduates work at government, universities or private agencies both in Turkey and abroad. Facilities; The Department has research and computer labs each having sufficient number of powerful PCs equipped with necessary software applications (such as Arc-info Arcview, Arcgis, Tnt-mips, Map-info, Intergraph, MGE, Idrisi, PCI-Geomatica, Erdas Imagine, etc.), the lab also has high resolution scanners, printers, GPS receivers (dual frequency, 12 channeled) and software for GPS data processing and adjustment. |
